
Three Wrestlers Receive Scholar All-American Awards
Three members of the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar Awards for the 2021-22 season.
Recognized from UW-Oshkosh as NCAA Division III Scholar All-Americans were juniors Luc Valdez and Beau Yineman and sophomore Preston Morgan.
The NWCA honored 325 Division III wrestlers for owning a 3.20 cumulative grade-point-average or higher, including 27 from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) led the list of honorees with 13 Scholar All-American selections while Augsburg University (Minn.), Roger Williams University (R.I.) and Washington & Lee University (Va.) each had 10 award winners.
UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater each had a WIAC-high six Scholar All-American selections.
A finance major with a 3.92 cumulative grade-point-average, Valdez compiled a 24-7 record (7 pins) this past season while placing second at the WIAC Championship and fifth at the Division III Upper Midwest Regional in the 125-pound weight class. The two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member previously finished sixth in the conference at 125 pounds in 2020 and third at 133 pounds in 2021.
Yineman owns a 3.46 GPA as a physical education major. He tallied a 36-4 record (16 pins) at 197 pounds this past season while finishing first at the WIAC Championship, third at the Division III Upper Midwest Regional and third to earn All-America honors at the Division III Championship. Yineman is a two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member who placed second at the 2019 league championship and first in 2021.
Morgan possesses a 3.31 GPA as a major in biomedical science. The 2021 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member accumulated a 22-10 record (8 pins) this past season while ranking third at both the WIAC Championship and Division III Upper Midwest Regional in the 165-pound weight class. Morgan qualified for the 2022 Division III Championship but didn't place.
In the team category, Augsburg University finished atop the field with its 3.87 GPA.
UW-Oshkosh compiled a 12-2 dual record during the 2022 season. The Titans also finished fourth at the WIAC Championship, sixth at the Division III Upper Midwest Regional and 10th at the Division III Championship.
