Pointers' Late Run Spells Defeat For Titans

UW-Stevens Point won the last three bouts to pull away and defeat the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team, 28-14, on Wednesday (Nov. 22) in Stevens Point.

The Pointers (2-2, 1-0 WIAC) led 15-14 before securing the match with victories from Cody Nielsen at 184 pounds, Dylan Diebitz at 197 and Donny Ralston at 285.

Nielsen gave UW-Stevens Point an 18-14 lead with his 7-3 win over Patrick Reilly. Diebitz then extended the Pointers' advantage to 22-14 with his 12-0 victory over John DePersia. The final score was created when UW-Oshkosh's Michael Dunlap was disqualified in his match with Ralston.

UW-Oshkosh's Anthony Senthavisouk started the meet with an 18-6 victory over Moziah Clark at 126 pounds.

UW-Stevens Point answered right back as Ben Vosters won his 133-pound contest with a 16-0 victory over Jonathan Flores.

Trailing 5-4, UW-Oshkosh (2-1, 1-1 WIAC) received wins from Jeremiah Recinos at 141 pounds and Joe Pelkey at 149 to take an 11-5 advantage in the team scoring. Recinos rolled to a 17-4 victory over Frank Lor while Pelkey edged Joey Seitz, 8-6.

The Pointers closed their deficit to 11-9 on Boone Roycraft's 10-0 win over Josh Becker at 157 pounds and took the lead for good at 15-11 on Logan Hermsen's pin of Corey Knudsen in 1:01 at 165.

Colten Cashmore got the Titans within 15-14 by defeating Quinton Peters by a 5-2 score at 174 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts UW-Platteville on Dec. 1 in Kolf Sports Center.
