Titans Have Two Place Winners At UW-Stevens Point Open

Ethan Altabet finished fourth to list as UW-Oshkosh's top place winner at the UW-Stevens Point Wrestling Open held Saturday (Nov. 5) in Stevens Point.

Altabet compiled a 3-2 record (2-2 collegiate) in the 125-pound weight class after losing his third-place match by an 11-3 result to UW-Whitewater's Mike Tortorice.

Altabet defeated Concordia University Wisconsin's Matthew Saldana, 18-11, and unattached Cameron Sharieff, 9-3, in his opening matches before suffering a 5-0 loss to Concordia College's (Minn.) Jakob Stageberg. Altabet then advanced to his third-place contest with a 10-9 decision over UW-Stevens Point's Moziah Clark.

UW-Oshkosh's other place winner in the non-scoring team event was Nate Arquinego, who finished sixth in the 149-pound weight division with a 2-3 record.

Arquinego rebounded from a 15-6 opening loss to Concordia College's Ben Baumgartner with an injury default win over unattached Dakota Katz and a 6-5 victory over Lakeland University's Ian Gioacchini.

Aquinego then lost results of 9-3 to Concordia College's Blane Tschida and 11-9 to Baumgartner, with the latter defeat being in the fifth-place match.

Winning multiple matches for the Titans was John DePersia at 197 pounds. DePersia posted a 2-2 record (1-2 collegiate), including a pin in 37 seconds over Michael Orth of the UW Wrestling Club. He also tallied a 7-0 win over Jacob Briggs of Concordia College.

Compiling a 1-2 record was UW-Oshkosh's Aristide Serrano at 165 pounds. Serrano's lone victory was an 11-3 decision over Lakeland University's Dante Williams.

Going winless in two collegiate results were Bennett Temple at 125 pounds, Donovan Luckett and Dellas Vandenberg at 141, Josh Becker and Corey Knudsen at 157, Christian Quiles at 165, Zach Frassetto at 174 and Patrick Reilly at 184.

UW-Oshkosh will host the 14th Annual Dan Gable Open on Saturday (Nov. 12) in Kolf Sports Center.
