Pelkey Named to All-Academic Team

UW-Oshkosh junior Joe Pelkey has been named to the 2016 NCAA Division III All-Academic Team by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

The NWCA All-Academic team is comprised of the top 182 individuals and 30 teams. Nominees must have at least a 3.2 grade point average for the previous full academic year. The individuals must also finish in the top six at his respective regional tournament and have at least a .500 winning percentage.

Pelkey, a kinesiology major from Cedarburg, owns a 3.311 grade point average and produced a 13-13 record with four pins during the 2016 campaign.

Competing in the 157-pound weight class, Pelkey placed fourth at the 2016 NCAA Division III West Regional and sixth at the WIAC Championship.

A total of 21 wrestlers from the WIAC earned a place among the top 182 individuals on the All-Academic Team. UW-La Crosse was represented on the list by a league-high six wrestlers, while UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point both had four, and UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater three apiece.

Wartburg College (Iowa) led the division with eight individuals on the All-Academic Team.

King's College (Pa.) highlighted the All-Academic team standings with a 3.49 grade point average.

2016 NWCA NCAA Division III All-Academic Team individuals
