20th-Ranked Warhawks Win Nine Bouts Against Titans

Elijah Burdick pinned his opponent during the 10th and final bout as UW-Oshkosh lost a 45-6 wrestling decision to four-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Thursday (Jan. 14) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (7-4, 2-1 WIAC) won the first nine contests before the 285-pound Burdick stuck the Warhawks' Jordan Festge to the mat in 2:34. The pin was Burdick's second of the season.

The Warhawks, ranked 20th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, scored 12 quick points as Zac Denney and Joseph Brodman received forfeit victories as 125 and 133 pounds, respectively.

Isaiah Vela and Bowen Wileman recorded pins for the Warhawks, who established a season high for team points. Vela made the score 22-0 with his pin of Corey Knudsen in 1:09 at 149 pounds, while Wileman extended UW-Whitewater's lead to 45-0 with his pin of Chris Yaros in 2:46 at 197.

UW-Whitewater won twice by a technical fall as Tom Gerszewski defeated Patrick Reilly, 16-0, at 165 pounds and Nicholas Bonomo ousted John DeParsia, 18-0, at 184. Gerszewski, who claimed his 15th straight victory, put the Warhawks ahead by a 30-0 score. Bonomo's win gave UW-Whitewater a 39-0 advantage.

Other successful Warhawks were Matt Adcock at 141 pounds, Brandon Arteaga at 157 and Connor Price at 174. Adcock defeated Craig Mason, 10-0, while Arteaga ousted Joe Pelkey, 13-6. Price posted an 11-3 victory over Julius Smith.

UW-Oshkosh (3-7, 0-3 WIAC) continues its two-day road trip at third-ranked UW-La Crosse on Friday (Jan. 15).
