Former Titan To Wrestle At U.S. World Team Trials

Former UW-Oshkosh wrestler Nazar Kulchytskyy will be among the competitors at this weekend's U.S. World Team Trials in Madison.

The three-day event begins Friday (June 12) and concludes Sunday (June 14) at the Alliant Energy Center (1919 Alliant Energy Center Way).

The trials will determine the U.S. World Team in both the men's and women's freestyle division for the 2015 Senior World Wrestling Championships on Sept. 7-12 in Las Vegas, Nev. There are 16 freestyle spots on the U.S. World Team up for grabs in Madison, eight for both genders.

Kulchytskyy begins competition in the 154-pound (70 kg) weight class on Saturday (June 13) at 10 a.m. There are eight wrestlers in his weight class, including 2015 U.S. Open champion Nick Marable of Morgantown, W.Va.

Kulchytskyy compiled a 142-5 record (67 pins) while wrestling for UW-Oshkosh from 2011-14. The Sosnivka, Ukraine, native won the 157-pound title at the 2012 and 2014 NCAA Division III Championships and the 165-pound crown in 2013. The three-time WIAC Wrestler of the Year posted a 41-2 record in 2014 to earn the NCAA's Most Dominant Wrestler Award.

Among the wrestlers competing this weekend are Olympic champions Jordan Burroughs and Jake Varner; Olympic/World medalists Clarissa Chun, Coleman Scott, Randi Miller, Jake Herbert and Tervel Dlagnev; and World champions Adeline Gray, Elena Pirozhkova and Iris Smith.
