Kleinhans, Dahlke Place Third At WIAC Championship

Korey Kleinhans and Alan Dahlke both placed third and Craig Mason fourth to lead UW-Oshkosh at the WIAC Wrestling Championship held Sunday (Feb. 15) in Kolf Sports Center.

Kleinhans won four straight matches after suffering a 7-6 loss to UW-Stevens Point's Cody Nielsen in the opening round of the 184-pound weight class. Kleinhans took third place with a 6-3 victory over UW-La Crosse's Ryan Bonikowske. Following his loss to Nielsen, Kleinhans posted wins of 14-5 over Michael Cole of UW-Platteville and 15-8 over Taylor Hildebrandt of UW-Whitewater.

Dahlke captured three of his four matches in the 197-pound weight division, including a 3-1 victory over Nick Stencel of UW-Whitewater in the third-place contest. Dahlke defeated Stencel, 7-4, in his opening bout before being pinned by UW-La Crosse's Eric Twohey in 2:54. Dahlke rebounded from the loss with a 4-0 triumph over UW-La Crosse's Sean Ward.

Mason achieved fourth place in the 141-pound weight class with a 2-2 record. He defeated Joey Seitz of UW-Stevens Point, 8-3, in the opening round before losing an 11-2 decision to Jimmy Nehls of UW-Whitewater and posting an 8-3 win over Jimmy Peterson of UW-Platteville. Mason lost his third-place match by an 11-4 score to UW-Whitewater's Matt Adcock.

Taking sixth place for the Titans were Jonathan Flores at 133 pounds and Hunter Mulock at 149. Mulock went 2-2 (1 pin) in the tournament after being pinned in 5:24 by UW-Platteville's Mason Bohm in his fifth-place match. Flores concluded action with a 1-3 record after losing a 5-4 decision to UW-Stevens Point's Michael Bannach in his fifth-place bout.

UW-Oshkosh's Terrace Davis compiled a 1-2 record at 133 pounds, including a pin in 40 seconds of UW-Platteville's Mitchell Schwahn.

The Titans had Joe Pelkey at 149 pounds, Brendan Gaynor at 157, Derek Hermanson at 165, Michael Berg at 174 and Matt Veneskey at 285 all go winless in two matches.

UW-Whitewater scored 162.5 points to win its fourth straight WIAC team title and 16th overall. UW-La Crosse finished second in the six-team meet with 138.5 points and UW-Stevens Point third with 109.5. UW-Platteville placed fourth with 59 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 45 and UW-Eau Claire sixth with 40.5.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the NCAA Division III West Regional on Feb. 28 in Minneapolis, Minn.
