Kleinhans Captures Dan Gable Open Title

Korey Kleinhans captured the 184-pound title to lead all UW-Oshkosh entries at the 12th annual Dan Gable Open held Saturday (Nov. 15) in Kolf Sports Center.

Kleinhans went unbeaten in the two matches he wrestled, including the championship bout where he defeated unattached and former UW-Oshkosh head coach Nick Matiash, 8-5. Kleinhans advanced to the final with a 6-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point's Dominic Gunderson.

Alan Dahlke took third place for the Titans in the 197-pound weight class. He posted a 3-1 record, including a 2-0 victory over unattached Nick Oskowski in the third-place match.

Dahlke defeated Tim Miller of Calumet College (Ind.), 8-3, before suffering a 4-2 loss to Lavontae Cobb of Harper College (Ill.). Dahlke qualified for his third-place match by pinning UW-Oshkosh teammate Jacob Moczynski in 2:13.

Fourth-place finishes went to UW-Oshkosh's Jonathan Flores at 133 pounds and David Leisgang at 141. Both wrestlers compiled 2-2 records after losing their third-place contest to opponents from Harper College. Flores lost an 18-5 decision to Duko Bogicovic, while Leisgang was pinned by Corey Cross in 3:35.

Flores opened with an 8-1 victory over unattached Joe Mosley. He then lost an 8-3 result to the University of Wisconsin's Joe O'Brien before defeating unattached Darius Schwartz, 9-6.

Leisgang marked a 5-0 victory over Calumet College's Tony Vasquez in his first match. He then lost a 17-5 decision to Harper College's Kerin Ramirez before ousting UW-Parkside's Matt Czeshinski, 13-7.

UW-Oshkosh's Michael Berg finished fifth in the 174-pound weight class with a 3-1 record. Berg earned his ranking by defeating UW-Parkside's James McPike, 5-3, in the fifth-place match.

Berg started with a 6-0 win over unattached Tyler Fischer. He then lost decisions of 13-4 to UW-Parkside's James Lehman and 3-0 to Lakeland College's Mason Lind.

UW-Oshkosh also had Hunter Mulock go 1-3 and Joe Pelkey 0-2 at 149 pounds, Derek Hermanson 2-2 at 157, Parker Knueppel 0-1 at 165 and Moczynski 1-3 at 197. Dylan Riley had to withdraw from both of his matches at 157 pounds due to an injury.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it wrestles at NCAA Division II UW-Parkside on Dec. 2.
