Kulchytskyy Named WIAC Co-Wrestler Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh's Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) and UW-La Crosse's Adam Sheley have been named co-recipients of the 2013 WIAC Wrestler of the Year Award. The selections mark the first time in the award's 17-year history that is has been shared.

Kulchytskyy earned the award for the second straight year. This past season, he compiled a 44-1 record (22 pins) and won the 165-pound title at both the WIAC and NCAA Division III championships. Kulchytskyy ended the year with a 39-match winning streak.

Kulchytskyy went unbeaten in four contests at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship held March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He took first place with a 5-3 victory over The College of New Jersey's John Darling.

Last year, Kulchytskyy posted a 45-2 record (17 pins) and won the 157-pound title at both the WIAC and NCAA Division III championships. He won all 12 (seven pins) of his matches during the 2010 season.

Kulchytskyy, who owns a 101-3 career record (46 pins), and Rick DeMaris are the only national wrestling champions in UW-Oshkosh history. DeMarias captured the 158-pound title at the 1975 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship.

Sheley completed the season with a 26-2 record, including three pins. He captured the NCAA Division III title at 141 pounds with a 2-1 decision over Paul Marcello of Johns Hopkins University (Md.).
