11th-Ranked Warhawks Overpower Titans

Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) accounted for the only team points as UW-Oshkosh dropped a 37-6 wrestling decision to nationally ranked UW-Whitewater on Friday (Jan. 4) in Kolf Sports Center.

It was the 17th consecutive victory for UW-Whitewater (5-0, 2-0 WIAC), which entered the match ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Kulchytskyy, competing at 165 pounds, cut UW-Oshkosh's deficit to 22-6 when he pinned Willie Anaya in 70 seconds. Kulchytskyy improved his career record to 68-3 (31 pins) with the victory.

UW-Oshkosh (0-2, 0-2 WIAC) lost twice in overtime as 174-pounder Dan Schiferl (Jr. • Stoughton) and 184-pounder Jay Howarth (So. • Coleman) suffered 8-6 setbacks to Ryan Aprahamian and Andrew Pettit, respectively.

A pair of 5-1 scores went in UW-Whitewater's favor as Elroy Perkin defeated Mason McMullen (Jr. • Milwaukee) at 149 pounds and Kegan Arthur ousted Tom Dahlke (So. • Shiocton) at 157. The Warhawks' Shane Siefert edged Tyler Wetenkamp (So. • Manitowoc) by a 4-0 score at 197 pounds.

UW-Whitewater had two pins in the match as 133-pounder Grant Sutter and 285-pounder Anthony Edgren ended their bouts in times of 2:40 over David Rosenau (Sr. • Van Dyne) and 4:57 over Brandon Clapper (So. • Plainfield), respectively.

UW-Whitewater, which received a forfeit at 125 pounds, also obtained an 18-4 victory by Jake Fredrickson over Justin Schienebeck (Sr. • Butternut) at 141 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh competes in dual meets against Lakeland College, Wheaton College (Ill.), Milwaukee School of Engineering and Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Saturday (Jan. 5) in Milwaukee.
