Schiferl Dominant At MSOE Invitational

Dan Schiferl (Jr. • Stoughton) pinned all four of his opponents as UW-Oshkosh placed second at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 1).

Central College (Iowa) won the meet with a score of 156.5 points. The Titans followed in second at 98, while Concordia University placed third with 97.5 and St. Olaf College (Minn.) fourth with 86.5 in the 11-team event.

At 174 pounds, Schiferl started his run to the title with a 4:19 fall against Shawn Flom (Concordia). He then took down Central's Dillon Anderson in 2:15 and Hannibal LaGrange's Nathan Downs in 4:34. During the final, Schiferl pinned James Roach (St. Olaf) after 6:58.

Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) was the other champion, claiming the 165-pound bracket. He started with a pair of pins over St. Olaf's Alex Evan in 1:00 and Central's Jon Heffner in 1:37. Kulchytskyy recorded a 24-8 technical fall against Peter Huang (Wheaton) in the championship bout.

The Titans received a fourth-place finish from Tyler Wetenkamp (So. • Manitowoc) at 197 pounds. Wetenkamp won his second and third matches of the event by scores of 4-2 over Theron Stewart (Central) and 4-3 over Jeremy Kroeger (Lakeland).

Fifth-place results came from Parker Peterson (Jr. • Eden) and 125 pounds and Justin Schienebeck (Sr. • Butternut) at 141.

UW-Oshkosh hosts the Dan Gable Open on Saturday (Dec. 8) in Kolf Sports Center.
