Mueller Receives WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award
With exceptional performance in the classroom and on the mat,
UW-Oshkosh's Zachary Mueller (Sr. • Jackson) has been named
the 2012 winner of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference's (WIAC) Max Sparger Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the
Year Award.
Mueller owns a 3.72 cumulative grade point average as a major in
secondary education. He is a two-time member of both the National
Wrestling Coaches Association's All-Academic Team and the WIAC's
Honor Roll. Mueller has been selected to UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List
and Honor Roll.
In competition this year, Mueller owns a 32-7 record with four
pins. He also finished second in the 125-pound weight class at the
WIAC Championship held Feb. 26 in Whitewater. Mueller is among four
wrestlers that will represent UW-Oshkosh at the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship on March 9-10
in La Crosse.
Last season, Mueller posted a 23-11 record and finished fifth at
the WIAC Championship. In 2010, he compiled a 24-16 record, placed
third at the WIAC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division
III Championship. Mueller tallied a 16-13 record and finished
fourth at the WIAC Championship in 2009. Mueller, who serves as the
captain of this year's UW-Oshkosh team, boasts a career record of
95-47 with 19 pins.
The only other UW-Oshkosh wrestler to earn the Max Sparger
Scholar-Athlete honor was Jeff Matczak in 1991.
