Sixth-Ranked Rangers Chop Down Titans
Fueled by four consecutive pins and six overall, the nationally
ranked UW-Parkside wrestling team defeated UW-Oshkosh, 46-3, on
Wednesday (Jan. 13) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Parkside (4-2), ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II by the
National Wrestling Coaches Association, recorded pins by Mike
Migawa at 141 pounds, Craig Becker at 149, Dillon Bera at 157 and
Matt Gille at 165 to take a 31-0 advantage.
UW-Parkside got pins from Migawa in 4:00 against Carl DeLuca (So.
• Wisconsin Rapids), Becker in 55 seconds over Jose Quintana
(So. • Burnsville, Minn.), Bera in 1:55 over Aaron Geiger (So.
• Two Rivers) and Gille in 2:21 against James Dederich (Jr.
• Menomonee Falls).
Two other UW-Parkside victories came via pins by Lucas Haag over
Aaron Erickson (So. • Merrill) in 3:50 at 184 pounds and Jon
Treml over Ryan Heath (So. • Merrill) in 45 seconds at 197
pounds.
Jason LaPlante (So. • New Berlin) achieved UW-Oshkosh’s
lone victory by defeating James Malechek, 9-6, at 285 pounds.
The Rangers started the match with a 10-2 triumph at 125 pounds by
Cody Zimmerman over Zachary Mueller (So. • Jackson) and a
narrow 3-2 win at 133 pounds by Brandon Kircher over Kyle Kleuskens
(Jr. • Appleton).
Luke Rynish rounded out the results by inching past Sam Engelland
(So. • Neenah), 6-2, at 174 pounds.
UW-Oshkosh hosts the Seventh Annual Dan Gable Open on Sunday (Jan.
17) in Kolf Sports Center.
