Titans Headed To Collegeville For NCGA Championship

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics, the two-time defending national champion, will travel to Collegeville, Pa. to compete in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship on Saturday (March 23).

Ursinus College (Pa.) will host the meet at Helfferich Hall Gymnasium at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Gymnasts will be competing for the team and five individual (all-around, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor) national titles.

The Titans are making their fourth straight appearance in the national championship as a team. They won the 2023 and 2022 titles and placed fourth in the 2019 meet. The 2020 and 2021 championships were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 18 total appearances, Oshkosh also collected NCGA titles in 1989 and 2007 and owns six national championships overall. The first two came at the 1980 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) and 1986 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) championships.

UW-Oshkosh won its fourth consecutive and 18th overall WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional on Saturday, March 9 with 192.875 points. UW-Whitewater finished second and grabbed the WIAC's other automatic bid to the national championship with 192.275 points.

State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport won the NCGA East Regional on March 9 by totaling 192.100 points and SUNY Cortland finished second with a score of 191.650. UW-La Crosse (192.175) and UW-Stout (190.775) qualified as the two at-large bids the regions share.

The Titans enter the national championship ranked second in Division III with a season average score of 193.2625 points in Roadtonational.com's Division III Ranking Index.  SUNY Brockport leads the division with an average team score of 193.2875. Oshkosh also ranks first in with a season average score of 48.4875 points on the uneven bars, while sitting in the top-5 in team vault (48.3375, second), balance beam (48.2375, third) and floor exercise (48.6750, fifth) scores.

Six Oshkosh gymnasts hold seven top-eight rankings in individual events. Mia Lucero (Jr. • Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Reanna McGibboney (Jr. • Chester Springs, Pa.) sit third and fourth on the vault. Emily Buffington (Sr. • Huntersville, N.C.) holds the third position on the uneven bars and second in the all-around, while Kaylie Berens (Sr. • Golden, Colo.) and Sam Zeilinger (Jr. • Wheaton, Ill.) sit fifth and eighth on the bars. Lydia Hayden (So. • Broomfield, Colo.) ranks sixth on the balance beam.

Titans competing on Saturday that have previously collected All-America honors include, Buffington (2022 uneven bars-champion, 2023 all-around-fourth), Hayden (2023 balance beam-third), Lucero (2023 vault-eighth) and McGibboney (2023 floor exercise-third, vault-eighth).

The top three teams at Saturday's championship receive a trophy while individuals finishing first through eighth (and ties) on each individual event and the all-around collect All-America medals.

Individually, Oshkosh boasts 18 national titles (13 gymnasts). Oshkosh student-athletes have combined to earn 116 All-America awards throughout the history of the NCGA Championship.
