Titans Open Season With Win Over Pipers

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team outscored Hamline University (Minn.) 190.875-176.625 in its season opener at the Kolf Sports Center on Friday night (Jan. 5). The Titans' score was the highest in a opening meet in program history

The Titans won all four events by at least two points, scoring 48.175 points on the vault, 47.300 points on the uneven bars, 47.425 points on the balance beam and 47.975 points on the floor exercise while taking at least the top three spots on each event.

Oshkosh took the top five spots on the vault, led by Mia Lucero (Jr. • Bolingbrook, Ill.) with a 9.725-point performance. Amaya McConkay (So. • Broken Arrow, Okla.), Reanna McGibboney (So. • Chester Springs, Pa.), Anna Zoromski (Sr. • Wausau) and Sam Zeilinger (Jr. • Wheaton, Ill.) followed behind with two 9.650's and two 9.625's.

Zeilinger was the top finisher on the uneven bars with a career-best 9.525. McGibboney, Zoromski and McConkay each scored a 9.450, followed by Kaylie Berens (Sr. • Golden, Colo.) with a 9.425 and Lydia Hayden (So. • Broomfield, Colo.), who scored 9.375 points.

On the balance beam, Zoromski paced Titan gymnasts by receiving a score of 9.600 points. Delaney Cienkus (Jr. • Plainfield, Ill.) took second with a score of 9.575 points and Hayden grabbed third with 9.550.

The Titans finished with all six top-finishers once more, this time on the floor exercise. Lucero and McGibboney grabbed the top spot on the floor, each scoring a 9.675. Emily Buffington (Sr. • Huntersville, N.C.) reached the third spot with 9.600 points. The final three spots went to Cienkus, Jay Ratkowski (Fr. • Franklin) and Aleah Radojevich (So. • Chicago, Ill.).

The Titans will return to action at the Division I University of Illinois Quadrangular next Saturday (Jan. 13) at 2:30 p.m. Joining the Titans in Champaign will be another Division I schools, West Virginia University and Western Michigan University.
