Titans Win Second Consecutive National Title

WINONA, Minn.- For the second consecutive year, the UW-Oshkosh gymnastics team is the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association National Champion with a score of. 192.525 in Winona on Saturday afternoon. It is their sixth overall championship and their fourth NCGA title. Freshman Reanna McGibboney led the Titans with two All-America awards.

Oshkosh entered the meet ranked second in the RoadtoNationals.com's Division III Rating Index behind the State University of New York Brockport with an average finish of 190.553. Brockport held an average of 190.872. UW-La Crosse ranked third with 190.447, Ithaca College (N.Y.) fifth with 188.853, Springfield College (Mass.) seventh with 187.994 and UW-Stout sixth with 187.944.

Oshkosh's 192.525 was reached with a 48.400 on the floor exercise, a 48.050 on the vault, a 47.525 on the uneven bars and a 48.550 on the balance beam. Their overall finish is the third-highest in program history. La Crosse finished second with 192.325, Stout followed in third with 190.275, Springfield finished fourth with 190.100, Brockport grabbed fifth with 189.225 and Ithaca.

Kara Welsh from UW-Whitewater was the national champion on the vault, with a score of 9.825. Rachel Chesley from La Crosse won the uneven bars with a 9.800. Devon Rosier from Springfield took the balance beam crown with 9.825 points. Christina Wygonik from Springfield won the floor exercise, scoring a 9.825. Tia Ravara from UW-Eau Claire finished with a score of 38.100 in the all-around, winning the event.

McGibboney scored a personal season best 9.800 on the floor exercise, finishing in third place and earning an All-America medal. Junior Emily Buffington finished with a 9.700 along with senior Trinity Sawyer and both sophomore Delaney Cienkus and senior Kennedy Springer scored 9.600.

On the vault, McGibboney scored a 9.800. The finish grabbed her fifth place and her second All-America medal. Sophomore Mia Lucero finished in eighth with a 9.700 and an All-America medal. Cienkus and Springer both scored a 9.600.

Sawyer led the Titans with a seventh-place, 9.625 point finish on the uneven bars. She now has been named All-America three times in her career. Graduate student Rahdea Jarvis scored a 9.575 and junior Kaylie Berens finished with a 9.550.

On the balance beam, freshman Lydia Hayden took third, scoring a personal season best 9.775 while earning an All-America nod. Cienkus and sophomore Liz Romano each scored a 9.725. Freshman Mady Bellmore and Berens finished the event with scores of 9.700 and 9.625.

Buffington finished the all-around with 37.650 points for fourth place. She scored a 9.375 on the vault, a 9.350 on the uneven bars, a 9.200 on the balance beam and a 9.700 on the floor exercise. She has now earned two All-America medals.

Individuals finishing first through eighth (and ties) in each of the five event categories (all-around, balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars, vault) received All-America recognition.

After the meet finished, Seniors Adana Amor, Haley Volstad and Kennedy Springer were all named NCGA Academic All-Americans.

The Titans secured their 18th trip to the NCGA Championship by winning the West Region title for the third consecutive time on March 11 at the Kolf Sports Center. They finished with a WIAC Championship/West Region record score of 193.100. Oshkosh went 6-1 in conference duals this season, with their sole loss coming at La Crosse on February 3.
