Defending National Champion Titans Prepared to Return to Action

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The defending National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) champion UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics squad is prepared to return to the mat for the 2022-23 season. They will be returning 18 athletes and adding seven athletes.

Head coach Lauren Karnitz is returning for her 16th year at Oshkosh. She led the Titans to five duals wins, a top finish in a triangular, as well as the Titans' 16th conference championship (her second) and their fifth national championship (her first). She is joined by assistant coach Wendy Carey (first season) and volunteer assistant coach Baylee Tkaczuk. On her team, Karnitz said, "We came back this year with new goals and got right to work and I can't wait to see where we go from here." 

2021 Honors

Emily Buffington tied for first place in the uneven bars for her first NCGA All-America First Team in the NCGA Championship in Ithaca N.Y.. Other Titans that earned All-America First Team honors were Trinity Sawyer (third, floor exercise and fifth, vault) and Rahdea Jarvis (fifth, uneven bars).

Jarvis was also named to the NCGA All-America In Academics team.

Buffington was named the NCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year, Karnitz was named the Coach of the Year and Assistant Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Abby Gildernick was named the Administrator of the Year. 

Buffington was named the WIAC Gymnast of the Year, also earning All-WIAC honors on the vault and uneven bars. Sawyer earned honors on the floor exercise and uneven bars. Rahdea Jarvis, Kaylie Berens and Sam Zeilinger each earned honors on the uneven bars, and Anna Zoromski earned honors on the balance beam.

Titans to Watch

On top of returners like All-Americans Buffington, Jarvis and Sawyer, freshmen Maddy Bellmore, Lydia Hayden, Amaya McConkay, and Reanna McGibboney are all Titans to watch this season. 

Opening at Western Michigan

The Titans open the season on the road at Western Michigan University on Jan. 8 at noon. Western Michigan is hosting a triangular with Oshkosh and Illinois State University traveling to Kalamazoo.
