Titans Rule Over Gusties In Regular Season Finale

Victories from Emily Buffington on the vault, Kaira Hammond on the balance beam and Kennedy Springer in the floor exercise helped nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh defeat Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), 188.800-182.400, in a women's gymnastics meet held Saturday (Feb. 26) in Saint Peter, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked second in the Division III Rating Index compiled by RoadToNationals.com, owned the top four performers on the balance beam and in the floor exercise during its competition with the ninth-ranked Gusties.

Buffington took first place on the vault with a score of 9.70. She was followed by teammates Emily Gilot and Trinity Sawyer who shared second place with results of 9.60.

Hammond led all competitors on the balance beam with her score of 9.60. The Titans also had Delaney Cienkus and Liz Romano share second place with grades of 9.55 and Anna Zoromski finish fourth with a figure of 9.50.

Springer led UW-Oshkosh's top four listings in the floor exercise with her score of 9.75. Three Titans followed Springer in order as Rahdea Jarvis finished second with a count of 9.725, Buffington third at 9.70 and Sawyer fourth at 9.675.

UW-Oshkosh also ruled the activity on the uneven bars. Gustavus Adolphus College's Sophia Redding won the event with a score of 9.45, but the Titans captured the next five finishes as Sawyer and Samantha Zeilinger tied for second at 9.40, Jarvis placed fourth at 9.325, Gilot fifth at 9.30 and Buffington sixth at 9.175.

Gustavus Adolphus College's Brooke Merila accumulated a winning score of 36.10 as the lone contestant in the all-around competition.

UW-Oshkosh attained its overall team score with points of 47.475 in the floor exercise, 47.45 on the vault, 47.275 on the balance beam and 46.60 on the uneven bars.

Gustavus Adolphus College posted team event scores of 47.475 on the vault, 46.575 in the floor exercise, 44.25 on the balance beam and 44.10 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh will participate at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver's)/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional next Saturday (March 5) in Whitewater. The Titans are the reigning WIAC champion following their victory at the league meet in 2020. Last year's conference championship was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
