Titans Impressive In Season Debut

UW-Oshkosh's start to its 2022 women's gymnastics season was record-breaking as the Titans dominated a triangular hosted by Hamline University on Friday (Jan. 14) in Saint Paul, Minn.

The reigning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Titans compiled a winning score of 185.650 to register their highest season-opening result in program history. Winona State University (Minn.) finished second and Hamline University third in the team standings with scores of 178.750 and 174.775, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh reached its overall sum by totaling points of 47.20 in the floor exercise, 46.65 on the uneven bars, 46.30 on the vault and 45.50 on the balance beam. All four event scores were meet bests.

Emily Buffington had a big night for the Titans by outscoring her challengers in three categories. She won the all-around competition with a score of 37.85 while finishing first on the uneven bars and vault with marks of 9.70 and 9.60, respectively.

Buffington also placed second on the balance beam with a score of 9.30 and seventh in the floor exercise with a grade of 9.25.

Other event winners for UW-Oshkosh were Olivia Keller in the floor exercise and Mia Lucero on the balance beam. Keller had a winning score of 9.75 while Lucero had a first-place mark of 9.50.

UW-Oshkosh ruled three of the four individual events by having six of the top eight finishers in the floor exercise, six of the top nine finishers on the uneven bars and four of the top five finishers on the balance beam.

In the floor exercise, Titan Rahdea Jarvis finished second to Keller with a score of 9.50. UW-Oshkosh also had Alyssa Nore and Trinity Sawyer place third with marks of 9.35, Buffington seventh and Delaney Cienkus eighth at 9.20.

Buffington was followed on the uneven bars by the second-place score of 9.55 from Jarvis. UW-Oshkosh also had Samantha Zeilinger finish third with a score of 9.35, Haley Volstad fourth at 9.175, Emily Gilot eighth at 8.875 and Sawyer ninth at 8.70.

The balance beam had Lucero finish, Buffington second and UW-Oshkosh's Kaira Hammond third with a score of 9.225. Titan Ella Wilson placed fifth with a figure of 9.075.

UW-Oshkosh owned three of the top five finishers on the vault as Buffington placed first, Volstad third with a score of 9.375 and Sawyer fifth with an evaluation of 9.275.

The Titans travel to UW-Eau Claire for a dual meet against the Blugolds on Thursday (Jan. 20).
