Titans Have Little Trouble During Home-Opening Victory Over Blugolds

UW-Oshkosh swept the top five finishes on the uneven bars and the top three in the floor exercise to easily defeat UW-Eau Claire, 183.825-175.150, in its home women's gymnastics opener on Thursday (March 11) in Kolf Sports Center.

The defending WIAC champion Titans outscored the Blugolds in all four events as they recorded event team results of 46.50 on the uneven bars, 46.025 on the vault, 45.725 in the floor exercise and 45.575 on the balance beam.

UW-Eau Claire achieved its overall team score with event grades of 45.55 on the vault, 44.85 in the floor exercise, 44.70 on the balance beam and 40.05 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh pulled away from UW-Eau Claire with its performance on the uneven bars during the meet's second rotation. Freshman Emily Buffington won the event for the Titans with a score of 9.50 while teammates Emily Gilot finished second at 9.45, Rahdea Jarvis third at 9.35, Trinity Sawyer fourth at 9.30 and Haley Volstad fifth at 8.90.

In the floor exercise, UW-Oshkosh's Olivia Keller captured the event's top listing with her score of 9.65. The Titans also had Buffington finish second with a score of 9.475 and Volstad third at 9.40.

Sawyer opened the meet for UW-Oshkosh with her winning score of 9.675 on the vault. Volstad finished third to Sawyer in the event with a score of 9.35 and Kaylie Berens fifth at 9.225.

The Titans had four of the top six mentions on the balance beam as MacKenzy Walvatne finished second with a score of 9.375, Rachel Morris fourth at 9.35, Audrey Koester fifth at 9.025 and Keller sixth at 8.95.

UW-Eau Claire owned the winner in two categories as Danielle Malecha and Tia Ravara earned first-place scores of 9.04 on the balance beam and 34.40 in the all-around competition, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh attempts to better a team score of 183.00 for the 11th straight meet when it hosts Winona State University (Minn.) next Thursday (March 18) in Kolf Sports Center.
