Titans Finish Third In Quadrangular With Three Division I Squads

The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team surpassed a score of 185 for the second time in five meets when it finished third against three NCAA Division I squads at the University of Illinois at Chicago Quadrangular on Sunday (Jan. 13).

The University of Illinois at Chicago scored 194.200 points to capture the team title while Kent State University (Ohio) finished second with 191.250, UW-Oshkosh third with 185.750 and Centenary College (La.) fourth with 181.800.

The University of Illinois at Chicago, a 10-time NCAA regional qualifier, owned the top six scores on the balance beam, the top three marks on the uneven bars and five of the top six figures in the floor exercise.

Kent State University, which has qualified for NCAA regional competition 10 times in the past 11 years, had the top two finishers on the vault.

Division III UW-Oshkosh reached its overall score by totaling 47.400 points on the balance beam, 46.850 in the floor exercise, 46.325 on the vault and 45.175 on the uneven bars. The Titans ranked third among their challengers on the balance beam, uneven bars and vault.

Freshman Kaira Hammond was the highest finisher for UW-Oshkosh. She placed sixth on the balance beam with a score of 9.70 while ranking 11th on the uneven bars with a grade of 9.425 and 16th on the vault with a rating of 9.20.

Freshman Emily Gilot of the Titans finished third among five all-around competitors with a score of 37.175. She achieved her overall value by placing 11th on the uneven bars with 9.425 points, 12th on the vault with 9.40, 16th on the balance beam with 9.50 and 24th in the floor exercise with 8.85.

UW-Oshkosh had three of the meet's top 12 scorers in the floor exercise as Bailey Finin finished seventh with 9.65 points, Olivia Keller with 11th with 9.525 and Jessica Bernardo 12th with 9.50.

Bernardo went on to add a fifth-place finish in the all-around competition with 36.725 points and a 15th-place listing on the vault with 9.325.

The Titans also had Amira Ali finish 11th on the vault with a score of 9.425, Rahdea Jarvis 14th on the uneven bars with a mark of 9.025 and Alyssa Nore 14th on the balance beam with a digit of 9.525.

The University of Illinois at Chicago received winning scores of 9.85 on the balance beam from Kayla Baddeley; 9.825 in the floor exercise from Alisa Sheremeta; 9.725 on the uneven bars from Toni Alicke and Mikailla Northern; and 39.050 in the all-around competition from Northern.

Kent State University's Dara Williams took first place on the vault with a score of 9.75.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) in its home opener on Saturday (Jan. 19) in Kolf Sports Center.
