Titans Defeated By Top-Ranked Eagles

The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team earned its highest score of the season during its 188.400-183.900 loss to top-ranked UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Jan. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans' overall result included season bests of 46.175 points on the vault and 45.425 on the uneven bars. UW-Oshkosh also compiled 46.55 points on the balance beam and 45.75 in the floor exercise.

UW-La Crosse, which leads the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association with its average score of 189.042, tallied event amounts of 47.775 points in the floor exercise, 47.10 on the uneven bars, 46.675 on the balance beam and 46.850 on the vault. 

UW-La Crosse swept all four event titles Saturday, including two by Amy Enright. She scored 9.60 points to win the uneven bars and 9.625 points to share first place in the floor exercise with teammate Ellie Beckman.

The Eagles' Samantha Wiekamp won the vault with 9.525 points while Leah Spankowski won the balance beam with 9.525.

UW-Oshkosh captured the top two places in the all-around competition as Amanda McBrayer totaled 36.85 points for the victory and Paige Mayhew 36.325 for the runner-up listing.

The Titans owned three of the top six scores in the balance beam, vault and floor exercise categories.

Kasandra Stamopoulos finished second on the balance beam with 9.50 points while Bayle Tkaczuk placed third with 9.475 and Dana LoCascio sixth with 9.425.

Amira Ali finished fourth on the vault with 9.375 points while Tkaczuk ranked fifth with 9.325 and Mayhew sixth with 9.20.

The floor exercise featured Mayhew placing fifth with 9.45 points and McBrayer and Jessica Bernardo sixth with 9.375.

The uneven bars had Tkaczuk finishing second with 9.55 points and Stamopoulos fifth with 9.35.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Washington DC for a quadrangular at NCAA Division I George Washington University on Sunday (Feb. 4). Joining UW-Oshkosh and the host Colonials in the meet are Division I schools College of William and Mary (Va.) and Kent State University (Ohio).
