Titans Ousted By Defending WIAC Champion

Defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse owned six of the top seven participants in the floor exercise and four of the top six contestants in two other categories as it defeated the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team, 187.65-181.775, on Friday (Feb. 3) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse outscored UW-Oshkosh by nearly four points (47.825-44.10) in the floor exercise as Abby Ostrovsky won the event with a score of 9.65. The Eagles also had Kari Willett finish second with 9.625 points, Elsa Spitzmueller third with 9.60 and Savana Kettner fourth with 9.50.

UW-Oshkosh's Bailey Finin and UW-La Crosse's Amy Enright and Samantha Wiekamp shared fifth place in the floor exercise with scores of 9.45.

The Titans had three of the top six scores on the balance beam, including the winning mark of 9.55 by Baylee Tkaczuk. UW-Oshkosh's Kasandra Stamopoulos finished fourth and Dana LoCascio fifth on the apparatus with scores of 9.425 and 9.35, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh had a pair of gymnasts place in the top six on both the uneven bars and vault. Tkaczuk finished third on the uneven bars with 9.45 points and Stamopoulos fifth with 9.35 while Turner placed third on the vault with 9.275 points and LoCascio sixth with 9.225.

The Titans' Tkaczuk finished second in the all-around competition with 36.25 points.

UW-La Crosse three other event winners, including Wiekamp who won the all-around competition with 37.45 points. The Eagles also received first-place values of 9.675 from Enright on the uneven bars and 9.35 from Willett on the vault.

In addition to its 44.10 points in the floor exercise, UW-Oshkosh also compiled team scores of 46.35 on the balance beam, 45.775 on the vault and 45.55 on the uneven bars.

UW-La Crosse's overall team score also included 46.80 points on the balance beam, 46.70 on the uneven bars and 46.325 on the vault.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at UW-Whitewater on Feb. 18.
