Gusties Spoil Titans' Season Opener

Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) outscored UW-Oshkosh in three of the four events to win a 175.550-174.725 women's gymnastics decision on Saturday (Jan. 14) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Gusties reached their winning team score by totaling 45.60 points in the floor exercise, 44.725 on the vault, 43.25 on the balance beam and 41.975 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh calculated its season-opening team score with 44.675 points on the vault, 44.425 on the balance beam, 44.20 in the floor exercise and 41.425 on the uneven bars.

The Titans owned three of the five individual winners as Jessica Bernardo won the vault with 9.175 points, Bailey Finin the floor exercise with 9.50 and Bailee Hardy the uneven bars with 9.175.

Bernardo also finished second in the all-around competition with 35.35 points and third in the floor exercise with 9.40.

Baylee Tkaczuk led UW-Oshkosh on the balance beam with her second-place score of 9.375 points.

The Titans' Kasandra Stamopoulos recorded a pair of third-place listings with scores of 9.325 on the balance beam and 8.925 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh's Dana LoCascio earned a third-place score of 9.075 on the vault and a fifth-place value of 8.675 on the balance beam.

The Titans also received fifth-place scores of 9.10 in the floor exercise from Danielle Turner and 9.00 on the vault from Karen King.

Gustavus Adolphus College, which lost its previous five dual meets to UW-Oshkosh, was led by Lauren Kershner's winning scores of 36.95 points in the all-around competition and 9.475 on the balance beam.

UW-Oshkosh competes against NCAA Division I opponents Iowa State University and Towson University (Md.) on Friday (Jan. 13) in Ames, Iowa.
