Titans Edge Gusties In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh opened its 2016 women's gymnastics season with a narrow 176.975-176.250 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday (Jan. 9) in St. Peter, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh outscored the Gusties in three of the four events, including the balance beam where the Titans posted a 44.550-42.775 advantage. UW-Oshkosh also tallied 45.725 points in the floor exercise, 45.525 on the vault and 41.175 on the uneven bars.

In addition to its value on the balance beam, Gustavus Adolphus College recorded event scores of 45.375 on the vault, 45.225 in the floor exercise and 42.875 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh owned the top four finishers on the balance beam and five of the top seven performers on the vault. The Titans also had the top two gymnasts in the floor exercise.

Krystal Walker, who won the all-around competition with 37.325 points, took first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.40. Kasandra Stamopoulos finished second to Walker on the balance beam with 9.275 points, while Dana LoCascio placed third with 8.90 and Amanda McBrayer fourth with 8.775.

Walker earned her third victory of the meet with a score of 9.325 on the uneven bars. The Titans also had Kylie Fischer finish second with 9.05 points and McBrayer fourth with 8.625.

Bailey Finin gave UW-Oshkosh another victory with her score of 9.575 in the floor exercise. Walker finished second with 9.475 points and Fischer sixth with 8.95.

UW-Oshkosh dominated the vault competition as Kimberly Robertson placed second with 9.225 points, McBrayer and Walker fourth with 9.125, LoCascio sixth with 9.075 and Fischer seventh with 8.975. Gustavus Adolphus College's Alex Kopp captured first place on the vault with a score of 9.375.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Hamline University (Minn.) and defending National Collegiate Gymnastics Association champion UW-La Crosse next Saturday (Jan. 16) in Kolf Sports Center.
