Walker Takes Fourth In National All-Around Competition

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker (Fr. • Chicago, Ill.) earned All-America honors with her fourth-place finish in the all-around competition at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship held Friday (March 22, 2013) in Whitewater.

Walker totaled 37.625 points in the all-around competition, including an event-best 9.70 on the balance beam. Sarah Nadrowski of State University of New York-Cortland won the all-around title with 38.10 points, while Katie Thompson of UW-Whitewater finished second with 37.95, Brittany Baglow of Springfield College (Mass.) third with 37.65 and Christa Booman of UW-La Crosse fifth with 37.50.

Individual finals in the floor exercise and on the balance beam, uneven bars and vault will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday (March 23). The top-six finishers in each category earn All-America first team honors. Places seven through 12 receive All-America second team accolades.

UW-Oshkosh gymnasts participating in the finals are Walker and Leane Blais (So. • Salisbury, N.C.). Walker will perform on the balance beam and vault, while Blais will compete on the uneven bars.    

Defending champion UW-Whitewater captured the team title with 189.75 points, while UW-La Crosse finished second with 186.575 and State University of New York-Cortland third with 185.90. State University of New York-Brockport placed fourth in the six-team meet with 185.30 points, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 184.55 and Ursinus College (Pa.) sixth with 181.325.
