Warhawks' School-Record Score Too Much For Titans

Katie Thompson won two events and the all-around competition to help defending national champion UW-Whitewater score a school-record 190.075 points during its victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the meet with a season-high 185.35 points. Each event resulted in a season best for the Titans as they scored 47.25 points in the floor exercise, 46.30 on the uneven bars and 45.90 on both the balance beam and vault.

UW-Whitewater's overall score featured 47.95 points in the floor exercise, 47.50 on the uneven bars, 47.35 on the balance beam and 47.275 on the vault.

Thompson counted 38.30 points to win the all-around competition. She also took first place on the uneven bars and vault with scores of 9.70 and 9.55, respectively.

UW-Whitewater owned the remaining individual winners as Kristen Shackleton tallied 9.625 points on the balance beam and Cici Talcott 9.70 in the floor exercise.

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker (Fr. • Chicago, Ill.) placed in the top six in four categories, including the all-around competition with a season-high 37.925 points. She also finished second on balance beam with a score of 9.60, fifth in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.575 and sixth on the vault with a figure of 9.35.

The Titans' Leane Blais (So. • Salisbury, N.C.) contributed a pair of fifth-place finishes by posting scores of 9.40 on the balance beam and 9.45 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh also had Abby Zubella (Sr. • Appleton) finish third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.625 and Stephanie Gorman (Jr. • Belvidere, Ill.) fifth on the vault with a mark of 9.425. The Titans' Steffani Meusburger (Jr. • Highlands Ranch, Colo.) ranked sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.425.

UW-Oshkosh competes against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Winona State University (Minn.) and host UW-La Crosse at the Gershon/McLellan Invitational on Friday (Feb. 2) in La Crosse.
