Five Titans Appear On WIAC All-Centennial Team
Five former Titans are among the 17 women named
to the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WIAC) Gymnastics All-Time
Team. The league selected these individuals for its centennial
anniversary celebration.
UW-Oshkosh had Tiffany Barden (1996-99), Lynnda Hahn (1990-93),
Mary Leivian (1986-89), Debbie Lindemer (1983-86) and Amy Webb
(1990-93) chosen on the squad. Each of these women captured a
national title during their time with the Titans.
Barden (Plover • Stevens Point High School) gathered eight
All-America awards and seven WIAC titles. She won the balance beam
at the 1996 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA)
Championship, while placing second on the apparatus in 1999. Her
list of WIAC titles includes all-around victories in 1997 and
1999.
Hahn won her lone NCGA title on the balance beam in 1990. Her 13
All-America awards also include a second-place finish in the floor
exercise at the 1991 NCGA Championship. Hahn (Brookfield •
Brookfield Central High School) captured five WIAC titles,
including the all-around and vault twice each.
Leivian is UW-Oshkosh's most decorated gymnast.
Her resume is highlighted by nine National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) titles, three NCGA championships,
two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II
crowns and two United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF) gold
medals. Following a victory in the all-around competition at the
1986 NCAA Division II Championship, Leivian's inaugural collegiate
season ended with an appearance at the NCAA Division I Championship
in Gainesville, Fla. Leivian (Oshkosh • Oshkosh North High
School) captured 14 WIAC titles, including the all-around
competition four times and the floor exercise, uneven bars and
vault three times each.
Lindemer (Oshkosh • Oshkosh North High School) won four NCAA
Division II All-America awards, including two with her first-place
finish on the vault and in the all-around competition in 1984.
Lindemer's victory in the all-around competition that season
qualified her for the NCAA Division I Championship in Los Angeles,
Calif. Lindemer dominated the WIAC Championship from 1983-85. She
won nine league titles, including three in both the all-around
competition and floor exercise.
Webb (Port Washington • Port Washington High School) is a three-time NCGA champion. She defended her title in the floor exercise and won the vault at the 1983 NCGA Championship. Webb acquired WIAC titles in the floor exercise in 1982 and 1983.
From 1983 to 1999, all five women played a part
in UW-Oshkosh winning one NAIA title, one NCGA title and 10 WIAC
championships.
UW-La Crosse accounted for eight gymnasts on the all-time team.
Eagles named to the squad were Tricia Adkins (1991-94), Gabi Hooper
(2006-10), Lisa Kartman (1983-86), Kim MacKrille (1987-91), Becky
McDonnell (1998-2001), Keri Motz (1997-2000), Nina Schubert
(2002-05) and Jennifer Houle (2003-06).
The remaining four honorees were Naomi DeLara (2008-11) and Meghan
Hargens (2007-10) of UW-Stout, Merilee Healy (1992-95) of UW-River
Falls and Justine Weyer (2008-10) of UW-Whitewater.
The WIAC chose UW-La Crosse's Barbara Gibson (1986-present) as its
all-time coach.
The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the
league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in
those men's and women's sports that have been classified as
"championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams
will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12
academic year.
All-time team members will receive certificates
from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the
recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC
Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.
