Titans Finish Seventh At WIAC Championship

Stacie Jenkins (Sr. • Peoria, Ariz.) finished fourth on the uneven bars and ninth in the all-around competition as UW-Oshkosh placed seventh at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Gymnastics Championship held Saturday (March 12) in Menomonie.

UW-Whitewater compiled 189.275 points to successfully defend its WIAC crown. UW-La Crosse finished second in the eight-team meet with 186.325 points, while UW-Stout placed third with 184.15, Winona State University (Minn.) fourth with 183.95 and Hamline University (Minn.) fifth with 182.775.

Completing the team standings were sixth-place UW-Eau Claire with 182.725 points, seventh-place UW-Oshkosh with 181.575 and eighth-place Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) with 178.35. UW-Oshkosh arrived at its fourth 181-plus score of the season by counting 46.675 points in the floor exercise, 46.35 on the vault, 45.225 on the uneven bars and 43.325 on the balance beam.

Jenkins finished fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.60. The Titans had five of the event's top 28 finishers as Alexandria Klier (Fr. • Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) placed 11th with 9.075 points, Abby Zubella (So. • Appleton) 22nd with 8.90, Ryan Metzger (Sr. • Hanover Park, Ill.) 24th with 8.875 and Dana Herr (Fr. • Swanton, Ohio) 28th with 8.775.

Jenkins also finished ninth in the all-around competition with a figure of 36.75 and 21st in the floor exercise with a value of 9.45.

UW-Oshkosh had three other top-30 finishers in the floor exercise as Zubella placed 16th with 9.50 points, Khrystyna Lychagina (Fr. • River Grove, Ill.) 27th with 9.35 and Jill Lindberg (Jr. • Meridian, Idaho) 30th with 9.275.

UW-Oshkosh also had Lindberg finish 19th on the balance beam with 9.025 points, Stephanie Gorman (Fr. • Belvidere, Ill.) rank 21st on the vault with 9.375 and Herr 24th on the balance beam with 8.875.

Naomi DeLara of UW-Stout and Lissette LaFex of Hamline University both won a pair of titles at this year's championship. DeLara took first place in the floor exercise with 9.75 points and on the balance beam with 9.25. LaFex owned the top spot in the all-around competition with 37.975 points and on the uneven bars with 9.70.

Jena Jondahl of Winona State University was victorious on the vault with a score of 9.625.

The top six finishers in each event secured All-Conference recognition.

The WIAC named Katie Gregory of Winona State University and Allison Nelson of UW-Whitewater as its recipients of the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Becky Beaulieau of UW-Stout was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Selected to the WIAC's All-Sportsmanship Team were Shelby Winzent of Gustavus Adolphus College, Rebecca McLaughlin of Hamline University, Lanai Peer of UW-Eau Claire, Tegan Oare of UW-La Crosse, Madeline Helwig (So. • Racine) of UW-Oshkosh, Kayla Widmar of UW-Stout, Katie Thompson of UW-Whitewater and Gregory of Winona State University.

The WIAC Championship also served as the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) West Regional. Teams advancing from the NCGA West Regional to the NCGA Championship that will be held March 25-26 in Eau Claire were UW-Whitewater, UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout. UW-Eau Claire will participate in the meet due to its host affiliation.
