Redbirds, Warriors Outscore Titans
NCAA Division I Illinois State University took the lead in the
first rotation and coasted to a win over both Winona State
University (Minn.) and UW-Oshkosh on Sunday (Jan. 31) in Normal,
Ill.
Illinois State University won the triangular with 192.60 points,
while Winona State University placed second with 180.00 and
UW-Oshkosh third with 179.45. The meet featured all three squads
recording their highest score of the season.
UW-Oshkosh reached its overall score by totaling 46.35 points on
the vault, 45.575 in the floor exercise, 44.175 on the uneven bars
and 43.35 on the balance beam. The Titans tallied season-best
scores on both the vault and in the floor exercise.
Illinois State University owned the top three scorers in every
individual event and the top effort in the all-around competition.
The Redbirds' Erica Schick was a triple winner as she registered
first-place scores of 38.175 in the all-around competition, 9.775
in the floor exercise and 9.675 on the uneven bars. Illinois State
University also picked up first-place scores of 9.825 on the
balance beam from Hannah Deutsch and 9.775 on the vault from Tori
Sarantakis.
Stephanie Jenkins (Jr. • Peoria, Ariz.) led UW-Oshkosh by
placing second in the all-around competition with a score of 36.60.
She also finished fifth in the floor exercise and eighth on the
uneven bars with marks of 9.475 and 9.025, respectively.
The Titans' Ryan Metzger (Jr. • Hanover Park, Ill.)
contributed a pair of 10th-place finishes by totaling 9.375 points
on the vault and 8.725 on the uneven bars.
UW-Oshkosh also received a fourth-place score of 34.05 in the
all-around competition from Stefanie Armstrong (Sr. •
Kennesaw, Ga.), a seventh-place count of 9.125 on the uneven bars
from Mary Ann Oehlerking (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), a
ninth-place figure of 9.20 in the floor exercise from Jill Lindberg
(So. • Meridian, Idaho) and a ninth-place mark of 9.00 on the
balance beam from Gretchen Fackelman (Sr. • St. Louis,
Mo.).
UW-Oshkosh competes with UW-Eau Claire and host UW-La Crosse at
the Gershon/McLellan Invitational on Friday (Feb. 5).
