Titans Suffer Narrow Loss To Blugolds

Dominating routines in the floor exercise and on the vault helped the UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team mark a 176.100-175.725 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Friday in Eau Claire (Feb. 26).

The Blugolds owned five of the top six performers in the floor exercise, including Danielle Schulzetenberg who finished first with a career-best score of 9.475 and Cece Solem who placed third at 9.175.

On the vault, UW-Eau Claire had four of the top five actors, including Solem who finished first with a score of 9.20 and Molly Senske who placed second at 9.05.

Schulzetenberg also ranked first on the balance beam with a value of 9.15.

UW-Oshkosh owned two first-place efforts as Stacie Jenkins (Jr. • Peoria, Ariz.) tallied 34.925 points in the all-around competition and Mary Ann Oehlerking (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) 9.175 on the uneven bars. Jenkins also recorded a second-place score of 9.325 in the floor exercise, a third-place mark of 9.05 on the uneven bars and a sixth-place figure of 8.90 on the vault.

The Titans' Stefanie Armstrong (Sr. • Kennesaw, Ga.) placed in two categories. She finished second on the vault with a score of 9.05 and fourth in the all-around competition with an amount of 34.075.

On the uneven bars, UW-Oshkosh also received a second-place score of 9.075 from Darlene Herrmann (Sr. • Newton, N.J.) and a sixth-place mark of 8.65 from Ryan Metzger (Jr. • Hanover Park, Ill.).

The Titans followed Schulzetenberg's winning score on the balance beam with the next three marks as Paula Delsart (Jr. • Green Bay) finished second with a score of 8.95, Jill Lindberg (So. • Meridian, Idaho) third at 8.85 and Gretchen Fackelman (Sr. • St. Louis, Mo.) fourth at 8.65.

UW-Oshkosh compiled team scores of 45.025 in the floor exercise, 44.55 on the uneven bars, 43.65 on the vault and 42.50 on the balance beam. UW-Eau Claire registered team marks of 45.925 in the floor exercise, 44.85 on the vault, 42.925 on the uneven bars and 42.40 on the balance beam.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional next Sunday (March 7) in St. Peter, Minn.
