Titans Cage Second-Ranked Warhawks
The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team compiled its highest
score of the season and upset UW-Whitewater, 182.700-182.375, on
Friday (Feb. 19) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Whitewater entered the meet ranked second in the National
Collegiate Gymnastics Association's GymInfo rankings and UW-Oshkosh
ninth. It was the first meeting of the season between the
teams.
The Titans arrived at their overall team value by tabulating
46.775 points in the floor exercise, 45.90 on the uneven bars,
45.30 on the vault and 44.725 on the balance beam. UW-Oshkosh's
score on the balance beam, in the floor exercise and on the uneven
bars were season bests.
UW-Whitewater, which surpassed 182.00 points for the fifth time in
seven matches, earned scores of 47.05 on the vault, 46.10 in the
floor exercise, 45.25 on the balance beam and 43.975 on the uneven
bars.
Stacie Jenkins (Jr. • Peoria, Ariz.) led UW-Oshkosh by
finishing first on the uneven bars with a season-high score of
9.50, third in the floor exercise with a season-high mark of 9.55
and fifth on the vault with a figure of 9.30. She also placed
second in the all-around competition with 36.40 points.
The Titans also received a pair of second-place finishes from Jill
Lindberg (So. • Meridian, Idaho). Lindberg tallied 9.20 points
on the balance beam and 9.575 in the floor exercise. She tied
teammate Gretchen Fackelman (Sr. • St. Louis, Mo.) for second
place on the balance beam.
UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place result belonged to Darlene
Herrmann (Sr. • Newton, N.J.). She performed to a score of
9.475 on the uneven bars.
Stefanie Armstrong (Sr. • Kennesaw, Ga.) and Ryan Metzger
(Jr. • Hanover Park, Ill.) added a pair of top-six finishes
for the Titans. Armstrong placed fourth in the all-around
competition with 35.775 points and sixth on the uneven bars with
8.975. Metzger ranked fifth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.05
and sixth in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.20.
UW-Oshkosh's Paula Delsart (Jr. • Green Bay) and Abby Zubella
(Fr. • Appleton) contributed fourth-place scores of 9.10 on
the balance beam and 9.55 in the floor exercise, respectively.
UW-Whitewater's Mary Kate Young won the all-around competition
with 37.30 points and the floor exercise with 9.60. The Warhawks'
Allison Nelson and Veronica Overby won the vault and balance beam
with scores of 9.575 and 9.375, respectively.
UW-Oshkosh voyages to UW-Eau Claire for a meet on Friday (Feb.
26).
