Titans Begin Golf Season With Home Tournament

UW-Oshkosh will compete in tournaments on six consecutive weekends as the Titans return to their traditional women's golf schedule this fall.

UW-Oshkosh, which had the fall portion of its 2020-21 schedule canceled due to the global coronavirus pandemic, was able to play in five tournaments last spring, including the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

The Titans' upcoming fall schedule features five tournaments in Wisconsin and a pair in Minnesota. UW-Oshkosh's spring itinerary will be announced at a later date.

UW-Oshkosh opens its 2021-22 season by hosting the Titan Fall Classic on Sept. 4-5 at the Oshkosh Country Club.

This year's 36-hole tournament is expected to involve visiting golfers from Edgewood College, Lakeland University, Loras College (Iowa), Marian University, St. Norbert College, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and UW-Superior.

UW-Oshkosh has won four of the last five Titan Fall Classics. The Titans earned winning team scores of 655 strokes in 2019, 634 in 2018, 647 in 2016 and 646 in 2015. UW-Stout was the 2017 champion with 666 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh's Erika Priebe is the defending Titan Fall Classic individual champion.

The Titans follow their only home event of the season with a pair of 18-hole tournaments in Onalaska. UW-Oshkosh will compete in the UW-La Crosse Invitational at The Golf Club in Cedar Creek on Sept. 11 and Viterbo University Invitational at the La Crosse Country Club on Sept. 12.

UW-Oshkosh leaves Wisconsin for its next two tournaments – traveling to Minnesota for the Division III Classic on Sept. 18-19 and St. Kate's Fall Invitational on Sept. 25-26. Both events are 36-hole tournaments, with the Division III Classic being held in Hastings at the Emerald Greens Golf Course and St. Kate's Fall Invitational in Stillwater at the Oak Glen Golf Course. The Titans finished seventh at the 14-team Division III Classic and fourth at the 12-team St. Kate's Fall Invitational in 2019.

UW-Oshkosh returns to its home state for the UW-River Falls Invitational on Oct. 1-2. The 36-hole tournament will be held in Prescott at the Clifton Highlands Golf Course.

UW-Oshkosh concludes the fall segment of its 2021-22 schedule at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 8-10 in Reedsburg. The 54-hole tournament will be contested at the Reedsburg Country Club for the fifth consecutive time.

The winner of the WIAC Championship earns the league's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship that will be held this May at the Woodlands Country Club in Houston, Texas.

Last spring, UW-Oshkosh finished seventh in the team competition with 1,055 strokes. The Titans, who placed third at the previous three conference championships, acquired their overall score with daily stroke counts of 352, 360 and 343.

UW-Whitewater accumulated a WIAC-record 925 strokes to claim its fourth straight league title and sixth overall. UW-La Crosse placed second to the Warhawks at last spring's championship with 963 strokes while UW-Stout ranked third with 1,021, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 1,026, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 1,028, UW-Platteville sixth with 1,053 and UW-River Falls eighth with 1,094.

UW-Oshkosh, which is seeking its fifth WIAC title and first since the 2015-16 season, has seven letterwinners returning this fall for first-year head coach Jeremiah Hoffmann.

Letterwinners back for the Titans are Lauryn Davis, Ava Downie, Megan Footit, Gwyn Golembiewski, Margherite Pettenuzzo, Erika Priebe and Mackenzie Retzlaff.

Pettenuzzo finished 20th, Davis 21st and Footit 34th at last spring's WIAC Championship while Pettenuzzo placed 13th, Priebe 19th, Davis 28th and Footit 33rd at the league tournament in 2019. Priebe also took seventh and Pettenuzzo 26th at the 2018 conference meet.

UW-Oshkosh claimed WIAC titles during the 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16 seasons and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship in the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16 campaigns.
