Titans Look For Another Top Finish At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh seeks a seventh straight top-three finish when it competes at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship (Presented by Culver's) this weekend in Reedsburg.

The 25th edition of the conference championship begins at noon Friday (April 30) with a shotgun start and continues with flighted tee times starting at 10 a.m. both Saturday (May 1) and Sunday (May 2) at the Reedsburg Country Club.

The winner of the 54-hole WIAC Championship, which is being held at the Reedsburg Country Club for the fifth consecutive year, earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 11-14 in East Lansing, Mich.

UW-Oshkosh, along with UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stout and three-time defending champion UW-Whitewater, are the leading candidates to win this year's league championship.

UW-Whitewater won its most recent WIAC title in 2019 after last fall's league championship was postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Warhawks totaled 933 strokes to win their fifth conference championship in program history.

UW-Stout, the 2016 WIAC champion, finished second to the Warhawks in 2019 with 941 strokes while UW-Oshkosh, the 2015 league champion, placed third with 987.

Rounding out the 2019 team standings were fourth-place UW-Eau Claire with 990 strokes, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 1,006, sixth-place UW-La Crosse with 1,043, seventh-place UW-River Falls with 1,060 and eighth-place UW-Stevens Point with 1,095.

UW-Eau Claire possesses a league-high nine first-place finishes at the WIAC Championship, while Whitewater owns five, UW-Oshkosh four and both UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout three apiece. In addition to its first-place finish in 2015, UW-Oshkosh also won conference titles in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Pettenuzzo, who finished 13th at the WIAC Championship in 2019 and 26th in 2018, owns an 86.6 stroke average per 18 holes this season. She placed seventh at the Carthage College Firebird Invitational held April 3 and ninth at the Marian University Invitational held April 10.
