Hubbard Named Interim Head Women’s Golf Coach

Beth Hubbard has been named the interim head coach of the UW-Oshkosh women's golf program, UW-Oshkosh Assistant Chancellor, Athletics Darryl Sims announced Thursday (June 11).

Hubbard, the fifth head coach in UW-Oshkosh women's golf history, will assume the position July 1.

An assistant professor in the UW-Oshkosh Radio-TV-Film department since 2016, Hubbard has been working with the school's golf program as a Team Fellow the past four years. Team Fellows assist UW-Oshkosh student-athletes in their academic progression plan.

Hubbard was a four-year member of the Alma College (Mich.) women's golf team until graduating in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and theatre. Hubbard received a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coach's Award for three consecutive years and team Most Valuable Player honors.

"Playing Division III golf was a big reason why I chose to attend Alma College," Hubbard said. "I love playing golf. I will definitely draw on that experience a lot in this position. My goal … is not just to help each player shave strokes off their game by focusing on the short game and course management, but also in aiding with time management and study skills to help each student-athlete be successful both on and off the course."

Hubbard's golf experience also includes serving as an assistant director and course professional at the Oxford Hills Golf Club in Oxford, Mich., from 2013-15. The course was founded by her grandfather (John Hubbard) in 1970 and continues to be operated by her family.

Hubbard, who earned a master's degree in film production from Chapman University (Calif.) in 2012, will remain an assistant professor in the UW-Oshkosh Radio-TV-Film program.

Hubbard's work as an editor, sound designer, mixer and Foley artist has earned her dozens of national and international awards, including a nomination for Best International Sound Design at the Hollywood North Film Awards. Her short film Alex & The Firefly is now streaming on Amazon Video.

Hubbard assumes leadership of the UW-Oshkosh women's golf program from Liza Ruetten, who is retiring after guiding the Titans for eight successful seasons.

UW-Oshkosh is coming off three straight third-place finishes at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a runner-up showing in 2016 since winning the most recent of its four league titles in 2015. The Titans have made three NCAA Division III Championship appearances, the last in 2016 when they finished 14th in the country. UW-Oshkosh also placed fourth at the Division III Championship in 2004 and fifth in 2003.

UW-Oshkosh begins the 2020-21 season by hosting the Titan Classic on Sept. 5-6 at the Oshkosh Country Club.
