Titans Finish Third At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh recorded its third straight third-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Golf Championship (Presented by Culvers) held Friday-Sunday (Oct. 4-6) at the Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg.

The Titans totaled 987 strokes (135-over-par) during the 54-hole tournament after recording 18-hole scores of 328 on Friday and 328 and 331 on Sunday. Inclement weather on Saturday forced players to play nearly 32 holes on Sunday.

UW-Whitewater captured the team title for the third straight year. The Warhawks accumulated 933 strokes (81-over-par), including 305 during the final 18 holes to earn the WIAC's automatic berth to the 2020 NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 12-15 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

UW-Stout, the 2016 league champion, finished second with 941 strokes while UW-Eau Claire placed fourth with 990, UW-Platteville fifth with 1,006, UW-La Crosse sixth with 1,043, UW-River Falls seventh with 1,060 and UW-Stevens Point eighth with 1,095.

UW-Oshkosh, which won WIAC titles in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2015, was led at this year's championship by Hannah Braun, Margherite Pettenuzzo and Dianna Scheibe.

Braun, the defending WIAC champion, finished ninth this year with 239 strokes. Braun registered 18-hole scores of 82, 78 and 79. She concluded the tournament with four birdies and 24 pars. Braun previously placed seventh at the conference championship in 2016 and 10th in 2017.

Pettenuzzo and Scheibe both finished 13th with 243 strokes. Both players marked 18-holes scores of 79, 81 and 83. Pettenuzzo ended the tournament with 30 pars while Scheibe had three birdies and 25 pars.

The Titans also had Erika Priebe finish 19th with 250 strokes, Nikki Differt and Hanna Rebholz 24th with 257, Lauryn Davis 28th with 261, Megan Footit 33rd with 266 and Sophia Mazurek 37th with 269. Priebe had three birdies and 22 pars in the championship while Differt had two birdies and 22 pars.

UW-Stout swept the top two individual listing as Trystin Kluess finished first with 226 strokes (13-over-par) and Madison McCambridge second with 230. UW-Whitewater's CheyAnn Knudsen, the WIAC's 2017 champion, finished third with 232 strokes.

Finishing fourth among the tournament's 64 golfers with 233 strokes were UW-Platteville's Markie Ash and UW-Whitewater's Ashley Hofmeister, who won the individual title in 2016.

UW-Oshkosh's next competition for the 2019-20 season will be in April.
