Titans Rally For Fifth-Place Finish

UW-Oshkosh improved its daily score by 22 strokes to finish fifth at the Viterbo University Women's Golf Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 15-16) in La Crosse.

The Titans totaled 800 strokes, with 18-hole scores of 411 coming on Saturday and 389 on Sunday. The improvement helped UW-Oshkosh climb two positions in the team standings.

Viterbo University won the seven-team meet with 686 strokes, including 341 on the first day of competition. William Penn University (Iowa) finished second with 700 strokes, while the Viterbo University B team placed third with 783 and Saint Mary's University (Minn.) fourth with 800.

Individually, Theresa Henke's (Jr. • Wisconsin Rapids) 10th-place score of 186 led UW-Oshkosh. She posted daily scores of 91 and 95 to finish just five shots out of seventh place.

UW-Oshkosh also had Taylor Wenzel (So. • Franklin) finish 22nd with 200 strokes, Coree Georgenson (Sr. • Stevens Point) 25th with 204, Amanda Bingham (Sr. • Mukwonago) 27th with 210 and Samantha Atkielski (So. • Pleasant Prairie) 33rd with 241.

Maggie Yang of William Penn University took the individual title with 160 strokes, 16-over par. Yang's teammate, Demi Coertze, placed second among the meet's 33 participants with her 162.

Viterbo University swept the next four positions as Chelsey McCoy finished third with 169 shots, Stephanie Gerber fourth with 171, Erin Isaacson fifth with 172 and Julia Callaghan sixth with 174.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 21-22) in Delavan.
