Sippl Leads Titans At WIAC Championship
UW-Oshkosh improved its team score each day on its way to a
seventh-place finish at the WIAC Women's Golf Championship held
Friday-Sunday (Oct. 7-9) in Wisconsin Rapids.
UW-Eau Claire ran away from the field for a 54-stroke team
victory. The Blugolds’ total of 974 strokes (110 over par)
outshined UW-Stevens Point (1,028) and UW-Stout (1,029).
UW-Whitewater captured fourth place at 1,037, while UW-Platteville
earned fifth (1,065) and UW-River Falls sixth (1,093).
The Titans compiled 1,098 stokes over 54 holes. UW-Oshkosh shot a
376 on day one, a 363 in the second round and a 359 to conclude the
tournament. Kim Sippl (Sr. • Omro) finished strong with an 85
for her 20th-place mark of 268.
Mary Welch (UW-Stevens Point) won the individual event with a
total of 238 strokes (+22). UW-Eau Claire owned the golfers in
second, fourth, fifth and sixth place with Catherine Wagner (239),
Maggie Lattery (243), Emily Swift (246) and Sara Mattes (250).
Nicole Westcott of UW-Whitewater took the third position at
241.
Theresa Henke (So. • Wisconsin Rapids) was next in line for
the Titans with her 273 for 30th place. UW-Oshkosh also had Andrea
Kirchenwitz (Fr. • Sheboygan) take 37th at 283, Amanda Bingham
(Jr. • Mukwonago) earn 41st at 288 and Coree Georgenson (Jr.
• Stevens Point) list 47th at 316. Emily Mallek (Fr. •
Plover), who placed 48th with 325 shots, and Samantha Atkielski
(Fr. • Pleasant Prairie), who stood 53rd with 351, concluded
the Titan results.
The par-72 layout measured 5,830 yards, as 54 players competed in
the tournament.
