Four Titans Reach Double-Digits In Win Over Blugolds On Senior Day

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day by defeating UW-Eau Claire 67-45 on Saturday (Feb. 3) with four Titans reaching double-digit points.

The Titans (17-2, 8-2 WIAC) shot 40 .0percent (22-of-55) from the field, 45.0 percent (nine-of-20) from three, and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the line, outshooting the Blugolds (10-11, 4-6 WIAC) in all three categories. Oshkosh also out shot Eau Claire in points off turnovers (17-15), second chance points (19-8), points in the paint (26-22), and bench points (19-5).

Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) scored 16 points for the Titans, shooting five-of-nine from the field, four-of-five from three, and two-of-two from the line. She also collected five rebounds and two assists. Sarah Hardwick (So. • Fond du Lac) followed with 14 points and three rebounds while Mackenzie Tlachac (Sr. • Kewaunee) put up 12 points. Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) recorded an 11 rebound (five offensive), 11 points double-double.

The first quarter started with the Blugolds going on a five-point before Hardwick scored two layups for the Titans' first points. Eau Claire made a three-pointer and a jump shot for a six-point lead before another layup from Hardwick minimized it to four. At the halfway point, Vaile made a three-pointer to bring the score to 11-9 and the Titans ended the quarter with a 10-point run to gain a 21-13 lead before Kylie Mogen was able to secure a jump shot for the Blugolds at the last second.

The second quarter started with a pair of free throws from Hardwick and a layup from Eau Claire. The teams traded points leading to Tlachac securing two free throws for the Titans and a three-pointer from Osterman to extend their lead. With another pair of free throws from Tlachac and a layup from Hardwick, the Titans were up 13 points with 5:23 left before halftime. The quarter ended with little action besides a set three-pointers from Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) and a layup from Vaile for a score of 43-24.

Eau Claire started the third with a jump shot before Osterman responded with a three-point basket to bring Oshkosh's lead to 20 points. A later Blugold layup came with another three-pointer from Osterman. The teams continued to trade points for most of the quarter before Tlachac ended the quarter with a shot from three for a 59-40 edge.

The Titans started the fourth with six-point spurt while the Blugolds secured their final five points of the game. Eau Claire was unable to overcome the deficit and the game ended with a layup from Olivia Argall (So. • Dodgeville) for the Titans to secure the 22-point victory.

The Titans will return for another home game against UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Feb. 7). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Kolf Sports Center. UW-Oshkosh won the first matchup of the season against the Pioneers by a score of 54-47 on Jan. 10.
