Titans Picked Third In WIAC Rankings

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team was chosen to finish third in the WIAC this upcoming season in a poll conducted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Titans (20-9, 8-6 WIAC record in 2023), advanced to the semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament and had seven consecutive wins between Jan. 14 and Feb. 4. They also advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

 UW-Whitewater (23-7, 10-4 WIAC), ranked ninth in the nation by D3hoops.com, was picked as the league champion for the 2024 season.

Rounding out the preseason poll were UW-Stout (18-8, 10-4) in second, UW-Eau Claire (20-9, 9-5) fourth, UW-La Crosse (19-7, 8-6) fifth, UW-River Falls (14-11, 4-10) sixth, UW-Platteville (11-15, 4-10) seventh, and UW-Stevens Point (11-14, 3-11) eighth.

In his 12th-season, Titans' head coach Brad Fisher welcomes back three of last year's five starters.

Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale), Sarah Hardwick (So. • Green Bay) and Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) return after starting 29, 27 and 15 games, respectively.

Vaile was named All-WIAC First Team and Hardwick received an Honorable Mention nod in 2023.

Other key returners are Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) and Kate Huml (So. • Janesville).

UW-Whitewater, last season's league tournament champion, returns three of its starters from last year. UW-Stout returns four, UW-Eau Claire one, UW-La Crosse two, UW-River Falls four, UW-Platteville four and UW-Stevens Point returns all five starters.

Moran Lonning will be taking over the head coach position at UW-La Crosse this year.

The Titans open the season on the road at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Beth Baker Classic against the University of Dubuque (Iowa). The team starts its WIAC schedule at home against UW-Whitewater on Jan. 3.

Highlights of their nonconference schedule include the St. Norbert Nicole National Bank Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 17-18, the Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) McWilliams Classic on Dec. 1-2, the Wittenberg University (Ohio) Holiday Classic on Dec. 19-20, and hosting their annual Winter Classic at the Oshkosh Arena on Dec. 29 and 30.
