Titans to Face Warhawks in WIAC Semifinals

OSHKOSH, Wis.—The UW-Oshkosh Titans are traveling to the top-seeded UW-Whitewater Warhawks for the semifinal matchup of the 2023 WIAC Women's Basketball Conference Tournament. Action is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. inside the Kachel Gymnasium in Whitewater.  

The Warhawks of UW-Whitewater claimed the top seed in the WIAC tournament, after finishing the regular season with a record of 19-6 and 10-4 WIAC. The Warhawks swept the Titans in the regular season with wins on January 11 (66-56) and February 8 (67-55).

The Titans, who are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, defeated the UW-La Crosse Eagles on February 21, 57-54. The Titans had previously split the series with the Eagles during the regular season before defeating them to advance to the semifinals.

Oshkosh Preview

The Titans offense is averaging 62 points per game and holds their opponents to an average of 55.2 points per game. The Titans are shooting 40.9% from the field and lead the WIAC at the free throw line with 73.1% of shots made. 

Kayce Vaile leads the Titans in scoring, averaging 10.6 points per game. Ava Douglas and Jenna Jorgensen add nine points per game each for the Titans. Vaile is second in the league for most rebounds per game, averaging eight. Vaile sits at No. 5 in the league for FG percentage at 50% while Douglas sits at No. 2 when going to the free throw line (82.9%).

Whitewater Preview

The Warhawks are averaging 67.4 points per game, while holding their opponents to 58.8 points per game. From the field, the Warhawks are No. 2 in FG percentage with 42.7% of their shots made. The Warhawks lead the league in 3-point percentage, making 34.1% of their shots.

The Warhawks are led by Kacie Carollo and Aleah Grundahl with 15.6 and 14.6 points per game. Carollo sits at No. 4 in the rebounding category, averaging 7.6 per game. Abby Belschner is No. 3 for FG percentage in the league at 52.2%, while Carollo leads the lead in FT percentage (86.3%).
