Titans To Host Eagles in First Round of WIAC Tournament

OSHKOSH, Wis.—The UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball team secured the fourth seed in the WIAC Conference Basketball tournament. The Titans (18-7, 8-6 WIAC) will host the fifth seeded, UW-La Crosse Eagles (19-6, 8-6 WIAC). Action is set to tipoff between the Titans and Eagles at 7 p.m. on February 21 inside Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans and Eagles split the regular season contests. The Titans defeated the Eagles in Oshkosh on January 14 (61-53) before falling in La Crosse on February 11 (56-42).   

Previewing Oshkosh

The Titans are averaging 62.2 points per game with the second-toughest defense in the league. The Titans defense allows 55.2 points per game by their opponents. From the field, the Titans are making 41.1% of their shots. The Titans lead the league in free throw percentage at 72.3%.

Offensively, the Titans are led by Kayce Vaile at 10.3 points per game. Ava Douglas and Jenna Jorgensen add 9.2 and 8.9 points per game. Vaile is tied for No. 1 in the WIAC for rebounding with eight rebounds per game. Sarah Hardwick sits inside the top-15 for rebounding in the WIAC, grabbing 5.5 rebounds per game. Vaile sits at No. 4 in the league for field goal percentage, making 51% of her shots. Douglas is No. 2 at the free throw line in the league, making 82.4% of her free throw attempts. Douglas sits at No. 9 in field goal percentage in the WIAC, making 45.6% of her attempts.   

Looking at La Crosse  

The Eagles average 64.5 points per game and have the No. 1 defense in the league, allowing 51.8 points per game from their opponents. While shooting 40% from the field, the Eagles are holding their opponents to 33% from the field. The Eagles lead the WIAC in blocked shots.

Kyah Steiner leads the Eagles with 9.8 points per game and is joined by Alana Gilles (9.1 points) in the top-20 for scoring in the WIAC. Steiner sits at No. 5 in the league for rebounding, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. Gilles leads the league in field goal percentage, making 58% of her shots.

Tournament Preview

 First round competition will begin on February 21 at campus sites. The semifinal matchups will be conducted on February 23 with the championship on February 25. The winner of the tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
