Titans Rout Pioneers

Melanie Schneider matched her career high with 17 points, Eliza Campbell and Isabella Samuels added 10 points apiece, and the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team never trailed en route to a 77-50 victory over UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Jan. 17) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (13-2, 3-2 WIAC) went on a 20-4 scoring run during a stretch of more than 10 minutes over the first two quarters to extend its lead to 36-16 with 2:06 left in the second period.

The Titans, who won their 11th straight meeting with UW-Platteville, held a double-digit advantage for the final 28:29 of the contest and led by as many as 31 points during the fourth quarter. UW-Oshkosh owned leads of 18-12 after one quarter and 41-22 at intermission.

Schneider shot 6-for-9 from the field and registered four assists in 19 minutes off the bench. She also scored a career-best 17 points in the Titans' 69-62 win at UW-River Falls on Saturday (Jan. 13).

Campbell chipped in seven rebounds for UW-Oshkosh while Samuels collected 11 boards to notch her second double-double of the year.

All 14 Titans in uniform received playing time and 11 scored points as UW-Oshkosh reserves accounted for 45 points and 18 rebounds.

Leah Porath and Jaimee Pitt contributed nine and eight points, respectively, off the Titan bench while reserve Madeline Staples had six points and seven rebounds.

Titan starter Chloe Pustina led all players with five assists and three steals.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 15th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, held advantages in field goal (.415 to .345) and 3-point (.381 to .182) percentages, rebounds (47-38), assists (16-12), turnovers (18-11), blocks (7-4) and steals (10-8).

The Titans went into the game leading the country with 10.1 turnovers per contest and a 1.63 assist-to-turnover ratio while listing fourth nationally in average scoring margin (+29.4), fifth in scoring defense (46.4), sixth in field goal percentage (.460), seventh in 3-point percentage (.381) and 10th in average rebounding margin (+13.4).

UW-Oshkosh, which shot 8-for-21 from beyond the arc on Wednesday, also entered the contest leading the WIAC in scoring at 75.8 per game and 3-point field goals with 107.

The Titans raced out to a 7-1 advantage before the Pioneers tied the score at 7 midway through the first quarter. UW-Oshkosh then reclaimed the lead for good at 9-7 on a layup from Staples with 4:38 remaining in the opening period.

Leading 16-12 with 2:32 to go in the first quarter, UW-Oshkosh recorded 20 of the next 24 points to extend its advantage to 36-16 at the 2:06 mark of the second period. Pitt and Porath had six points apiece and Schneider added four during the Titans' 20-4 scoring run while the Pioneers shot 1-for-17 from the floor during the stretch of more than 10 minutes.

UW-Oshkosh led by at least 17 points the entire second half. A pair of free throws by Pitt gave the Titans their largest advantage of 31 points at 74-43 with 2:23 remaining in the game.

Lexis Macomber led UW-Platteville with 11 points off the bench. Kassie Hansen added eight points and a team-leading six rebounds for the Pioneers.

UW-Platteville's last win over UW-Oshkosh was a 68-63 decision on Jan. 25, 2012, in Oshkosh. The Titans have won by an average of 19.4 points during their 11-game winning streak against the Pioneers.

UW-Oshkosh remains at home to host UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Jan. 20) in Kolf Sports Center.
