Titans Obliterate Tigers

Taylor Schmidt scored 14 points and Kylie Moe added 11 as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team cruised to a 69-23 win over Iowa Wesleyan University on Friday (Nov. 18) in Milwaukee.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0), ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, did not allow more than seven points in any quarter on the way to building leads to 13-3 after one period and 33-10 at halftime.

The Titans have outscored their opponents, 138-51, this season after limiting the Tigers to just 17.9 percent (5-28) shooting from the floor.

UW-Oshkosh owned overwhelming advantages against Iowa Wesleyan University in field goal percentage (53.2 to 17.9 percent), rebounds (37-18), assists (20-2), steals (14-9) and turnovers (27-18).

Fourteen Titans scored at least two points as all 17 players on the UW-Oshkosh roster saw action, including 11 who played 12 minutes or more.

Schmidt made 4 of 9 shots from the floor and all four of her attempts from the free throw line while adding four steals.

Moe connected on 3 of 4 attempts from 3-point range and both her shots from the foul line.

UW-Oshkosh's Madeline Staples contributed 10 points, a game-high seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. She went 5-for-6 from the field and pulled down two of the Titans' 12 offensive rebounds.

Morgan Kokta registered eight points, two assists and two steals for the Titans, who also received five points and three rebounds from Alex Richard, and three points and four assists from Kendell Truttman.

UW-Oshkosh held Iowa Wesleyan University (0-2) scoreless for nearly nine minutes to start the game. The Titans owned an 11-0 advantage until Cairece Allen's basket cut the Tiger deficit to 11-2 with 88 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

The Titans scored the first six points of the second period and went into intermission with a 23-point lead after Moe drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer. UW-Oshkosh shot 63.6 percent (7-11) during the second quarter as Schmidt accounted for nine points and three steals in the period.

UW-Oshkosh scored 18 unanswered points during a span of 6:20. The skein began on a layup by Kokta with 40 seconds left in the first half and ended on a pair of free throws by Isabella Samuels that gave the Titans a 46-10 advantage with 5:40 remaining in the third quarter. Kokta, Moe, Schmidt and Truttman each nailed 3-pointers during UW-Oshkosh's 18-point surge.

The Tigers were held scoreless in the final period until Allen converted a pair of free throws with 1:48 remaining.

UW-Oshkosh held its largest lead of 48 points on three occasions during the fourth quarter. A layup by Emily Miller gave the Titans a 65-17 advantage at the 2:09 mark, a jumper by Emma Melotik made the score 67-19 with 86 seconds to go, and Miller capped the scoring on a basket with 18 seconds left.

Ahlia Tai led Iowa Wesleyan University with eight points and four rebounds. Allen had five points for the Tigers while Jaime Hurd chipped in four points, four rebounds and a game-high five steals.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Milwaukee to play Alverno College on Saturday (Nov. 19).
