Fischer Named WBCA Coach Of The Year

After leading UW-Oshkosh to a 20-6 record, Brad Fischer was voted Division III Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

Picked to finish ninth in the WIAC preseason poll, the Titans went 12-4 to place second in the league standings. Fischer, in his first year as head coach, guided UW-Oshkosh to an 11-game improvement from last season – the best in WIAC history.

From Dec. 8-Jan. 31, the Titans posted a 13-1 record that included a 54-49 win over national runner-up UW-Whitewater. UW-Oshkosh also booked a 56-53 victory against #16 UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 6.

"I'd like to thank the WBCA for recognizing the season that our team put together," Fischer said. "It's really a credit to my assistants and all of our players. Every person in our program did whatever they could to help us be successful. This group set a high bar for future teams when it comes to being unselfish and believing in the big picture."

Fischer, the 2013 WIAC Coach of the Year, helped guards Katie Kitzke and Megan Wenig to all-conference first team honors.

The Titans led the league in both scoring defense (51 points/game) and free throw shooting (77 percent).

Before coming to UW-Oshkosh, Fischer was an assistant coach at UW-Parkside (2006-11) and UW-La Crosse (2003-06).

The other WBCA Coaches of the Year were Buzz Williams (Marquette) for Men's Division I, Drew Diener (Cardinal Stritch) for the Men's NAIA and Jenny Knight-Kenesie (UW-Parkside) for Women's Division I and II.
