Wenig Receives WIAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year Award

UW-Oshkosh's Megan Wenig (Sr. • Oshkosh) was one of three players to receive the 2013 WIAC Judy Kruckman Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award. She shares the honor with UW-Eau Claire's Sarah Bingea and UW-Superior's Connie Urmanski.

Wenig averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.04 assists per game to earn All-WIAC first team honors this past season. She ranked fourth in the league in scoring, free throw percentage (83.5), three-pointers (47) and three-point shooting (40 percent). Wenig compiled 352 points, 85 rebounds, 79 assists and 22 steals.

Wenig scored 20 points three times this year – in a 74-38 victory over Marian University on Dec. 17 and during defeats of 52-46 to UW-Eau Claire on Jan 9 and 59-50 to UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 22. She dished out a career-high eight assists in a 45-36 win over UW-Stout on Jan. 12.

Starting 81 of the 100 career games that she played in, Wenig totaled 1,088 points, 306 rebounds, 260 assists, 142 three-pointers and 81 steals. She ranks 14th on the school's all-time scoring list.

In the classroom, Wenig owns a 3.94 grade-point average as a major in education. Last month, she was one of five players to receive Academic All-District Six first team honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Wenig is a seven-time member of the University Dean's List and a three-time selection on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. She has volunteered with the Special Olympics and worked at the Wee Winni Childcare Center since 2005. Wenig is also a member of UW-Oshkosh's Sign Language Club.

UW-Oshkosh's only other WIAC Scholar-Athlete for women's basketball was Kay Mikolajczak in 2003.

The Titans finished the season with a 20-6 record, including a second-place 12-4 mark in the WIAC.
