Wenig Placed On Academic All-District Team

Guard Megan Wenig (Sr. • Oshkosh) was selected to the 2013 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Six Team. The five-woman squad is sponsored by Capital One and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Wenig owns a 3.94 grade-point average while majoring in elementary education. The team captain is a member of the Sign Language Club and has volunteered with Special Olympics and local schools. On the basketball court, she's started all 20 games and led the Titans to a 17-3 record (9-2 WIAC).

The league rankings have Wenig fourth in scoring (13.9 points per game), assists (66), three-pointers (34) and free throw shooting (83 percent). She is making 39 percent of her three-point attempts and averaging 3.0 rebounds per contest.

On Jan. 26, Wenig eclipsed 1,000 career points when she tallied 19 during a victory over UW-La Crosse. She posted season-highs with 20 points and seven rebounds in a win at Marian University. Wenig dished out a career-high eight assists in a triumph over UW-Stout.

UW-Eau Claire's Sarah Bingea and UW-Superior's Connie Urmanski joined Wenig on the Academic All-District Team. The other two members from Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin were Jessica Fife of Northwestern College (Minn.) and Carissa Verkaik of Calvin College (Mich.).

The NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team will be announced Feb. 19.

In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America program, nominees must: be a starter or important reserve; have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30; have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one calendar year at the institution; and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
