Titans Cap Alumni Day With Win Over Eagles

Katelyn Kuehl (So. • Fond du Lac) made 16-of-17 free throws in UW-Oshkosh's 58-46 win over UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.

Kuehl tallied a career-high 23 points and seven rebounds while making the third-most foul shots in WIAC history. UW-Oshkosh (16-3/8-2 WIAC) drained 29-of-33 tries at the charity stripe (88 percent), while UW-La Crosse went just 3-for-15 (20 percent).

During the second half, Megan Wenig (Sr. • Oshkosh) swished a free throw for the 1,000th point of her career. She is the 19th player in school history to reach the milestone. Wenig finished with 19 points, three assists and three steals.

The Titans scored half of their points on free throws during the opening period. Katie Kitzke (Sr. • South Milwaukee) posted a jumper and lay-in on consecutive possessions to gain an 8-4 lead. UW-La Crosse (9-10/3-7 WIAC) came back with a Briana Radowicz three-pointer to grab the 13-11 advantage.

The Eagles went ahead, 17-13, on a Lexi Masiak jumper with 10 minutes on the clock. UW-Oshkosh would allow just two field goals for the rest of the half. The Titans went on a 17-4 scoring run to take the lead for good.

Wenig counted a three-point play after a terrific pass from Shelby Serafin (So. • Amherst). On the next possession, Serafin blocked a shot. Wenig then dished to Kuehl, who made a lay-up and converted the three-point play for a 26-19 cushion. The Titans took a 30-21 lead to halftime.

Three minutes into the second half, Wenig canned a three-ball to make it 35-21. UW-La Crosse would get no closer than nine (39-30) the rest of the night.

Erin Levenhagen marked a hoop inside with 4:31 left to cut the deficit to 50-39. Levenhagen snatched a game-high 13 rebounds and three steals, while Radowicz topped the Eagles with 19 points.

UW-Oshkosh shot 34 percent (13-38) from the field, including 27 percent beyond the arc (3-11). UW-La Crosse totaled 38 percent (19-50) overall shooting and 5-of-9 success from long range (56 percent).

Kitzke made all six of her free throws to compile 13 points. The Titans captured the rebounding category by a 36-30 margin.

UW-Oshkosh, with its 6-0 home record, welcomes UW-Eau Claire to Kolf Sports Center on Wednesday (Jan. 30).
