Duhawks’ Second-Half Run Sinks Titans

Loras College (Iowa) went on a 13-2 run after halftime to earn a 62-48 women's basketball win over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Dec. 1) in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Duhawks (5-1) held a 29-24 lead at intermission. Following a jumper by Megan Wenig (Sr. • Oshkosh), Loras rattled off 12 straight points to go ahead, 42-26. Lauren Byrne and Kaitlin Phillips each hit a three-pointer during the streak that lasted four minutes.

Wenig and Ashley Neustifter (Fr. • Oshkosh) connected on jumpers to pull the Titans within 44-32 with 12 minutes left, but the game would get no closer. Melissa Herrmann gave Loras its largest lead of the day at 60-40 with 3:35 on the clock.

Katie Wheeler led the Duhawks with 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Phillips contributed 11 points, while Herrmann compiled 10 points and three blocks.

UW-Oshkosh (4-1) was paced by 15 points from Wenig and seven rebounds by Katelyn Kuehl (So. • Fond du Lac). The Titans finished with 34 percent shooting (16-47) from the field, 20 percent from long range (1-5) and 75 percent at the foul line (15-20).

During the first half, Loras ran out to a 20-7 cushion. Herrmann marked a pair of lay-ups, while Brit Jent converted a putback to take the 13-point lead.

The Titans came back with a 13-3 streak that included five points from both Wenig and Heather Conroy (So. • Wisconsin Dells). Wenig's lay-up just before halftime cut the UW-Oshkosh deficit to 26-24.

Loras made 5-of-18 triples (28 percent) on its way to 46 percent overall shooting (25-54). The Duhawks sank 7-of-13 free throws (54 percent).
