Titans Cruise To Victory Over Muskies

UW-Oshkosh is 4-0 for the second straight year after a 54-44 women's basketball win at Lakeland College on Monday (Nov. 26) in Sheboygan.

The Titans were never threatened in the contest, posting a 30-9 lead late in the first half. Megan Wenig (Sr. • Oshkosh) made all six of her free throws for a game-best 18 points. UW-Oshkosh was a perfect 14-for-14 at the foul line during the opening period.

Wenig swished a three-pointer in the first two minutes to put her squad on top. She then connected on a mid-range jumper to make it 5-2. After Marissa Selner (Fr. • Kewaunee) made a lay-up and two free throws, the margin stood at 15-7 with 11:43 on the clock.

During the last eight minutes of the half, Wenig was fouled twice while shooting behind the arc. She sank all the free throws to take a 27-9 advantage.

The Muskies, who shot 15 percent (4-26) in the first half, went more than six minutes without scoring. Trista Barron and Paige Papineau each nailed a jumper before the break to cut the deficit to 34-14.

UW-Oshkosh's first five baskets of the second half came from five different players. Katie Kitzke's (Sr. • South Milwaukee) triple at the 12:09 mark put the Titans ahead, 46-25.

Lakeland (1-3) finished the game on an 11-2 scoring run. Taylor Jandrin started the streak with a three-pointer and Becky Mayo tacked on four free throws.

Katelyn Kuehl (So. • Fond du Lac) hauled in 13 rebounds (six offensive) while scoring six points. UW-Oshkosh posted a +13 margin on the boards, as Kitzke and Ashley Neustifter (Fr. • Oshkosh) each marked eight points and two steals.

The Titans shot 33 percent (18-54) for the game, including 3-for-17 accuracy from long distance (18 percent).

UW-Oshkosh sank 94 percent (15-16) at the foul line, while Lakeland came in at 78 percent (18-23). The Muskies knocked down just 2-of-14 three-pointers (14 percent) and 12-of-52 shots overall (23 percent).

Leah Eisner compiled 16 points, six rebounds and five steals. Lakeland also used 14 points from Mayo and five assists by Aimee Thrune.

The Titans travel to Iowa for a contest with Loras College on Saturday (Dec. 1).
